After the brutal whipping of his wife, Ray Parker is sent to prison but not before he threatened Amelia in the courtroom. Just weeks before his release Amelia moves away from the only home she has ever known with the hope Ray won't find her. She knows the threat he uttered in the courtroom was not an idle one.
She finds peace and true love on the east coast only to slammed back into reality when her past catches up to her. She must fight for survival yet again. Her new love Kyle smothers her with his protection which forces Amelia to retaliate.
In a strange twist of events Kyle's past meets them head-on and jeopardizes Amelia's safety yet again. Will Kyle and Amelia ever have true happiness?

Tormented For the Sake of Amelia edition by Valerie Bowen Romance eBooks

Amelia must leave her home, and everything she knows and trusts behind to begin a new life on the shores of the Atlantic in Maine. Forcing her move is her recent divorce and the knowledge that her abusive ex-husband is being released from prison. He has threatened to kill her and she is sure he will follow through with that threat. Amelia knows he is a very dangerous man, she has the physical and emotional scars to remind her daily.

Leaving Kansas behind she moves to the picturesque town of Camden, Maine. Helped by a friend she has made on the web she settles into a new home by the sea. Along with her new friend Tracy she meets Kyle who, like her, is divorced. They fall in love and start planning a future together.

Trouble follows Amelia. Her ex-husband has a farther reach than she at first thought. She must see her way though life threatening situations before she can fully give her future with Kyle a chance to begin.

The story is interesting and shows a good deal of promise for Ms. Ms. Bowen. She has a good imagination and her character development shows thought. The novel, however, needs tightening and is wordy. There is a great deal of telling instead of "show" that could and should be eliminated. One example: "She sat in a small red booth with the table cantilevered from the wall. She set her tray on the table, and readied herself for breakfast; which consisted of coffee and a Danish." Too much information given; the bane of new authors. There are more than a few spelling errors one which stood out is the use of "knick" for "nick."

But overall, Ms. Bowen shows a talent for storytelling which will shine more as she learns and practices her craft. Her story is imaginative, cohesive and her narration is mostly good. Some of the dialogue needs work but it is a minor problem. Hopefully some of these problems will be addressed with the second novel in the series.

Be aware the novel ends with a cliff hanger so unless you are prepared to follow the series you will not get an ending with the ends neatly tied.

What a great story it was so hard to stop reading. With each page it felt as if I was living the story through Amelia's eyes sitting on the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to happen next for her. It's suspenseful, very well written, great story line, just one of those books that you can't stop reading till you're finished. Can't wait for book 2 so I can continue reading what happens next for Amelia.
VERY COMPELLING STORY LINE....WELL WRITTEN. ONCE YOU START READING, IT'S HARD TO PUT DOWN. THIS AUTHOR MAKES HER CHARACTERS COME TO LIFE. FOR ANYONE LOOKING FOR THAT LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL, THIS IS A MUST READ SERIES. IENJOYED EACH AND EVERY PAGE OF THIS NOVEL, I LAUGHED, I CRIED, I HELD MY BREATH.....EXCELLENT
I read this book as it was being written in different stages. It is a book that leaves you wanting more for Amelia, the main character. You get enthralled in her life and challenges, and you can't help to feel that she has to get away from the memories, the torture, the man behind her pain, and escape it all. You fall in love with the man who adores her, and you really want Amelia to find love through all of her pain. A great read written by one of my best friends in this lifetime.
Gripping story of a strong woman who transplants herself from Kansas to Maine after an abusive marriage. In spite of her harsh past, Amelia's story is very romantic and sweet. Love the setting in Camden, Maine!
I had the privilege to read this book before it was published. I was given a copy of the manuscript by Valerie. I have to admit I didn't expect it to be that great. The Valerie I knew wasn't a writer. How good could it be? The night I started reading it, I was hooked. I couldn't put it down. Every chapter ended with me wanting to know what would happen next, so I would have to read the next chapter, and then the same thing would happen again. The characters are so believable and so personable that I felt like they were friends. I needed to know what was happening with my friends. When the book ended, I was devastated. It had such an incredible cliffhanger that I sent Valerie a message right away begging for the next book. She gratefully accepted my plea, and sent me the second manuscript. I read the second book in just three days. I couldn't stop reading. It was even better than the first. The characters have grown, and Valerie has grown as a writer. I guarantee you will have to read the second book once you finish the first. For your sake, I hope the second one gets published soon, because you won't want to wait.
I really enjoyed "For the Sake of Amelia-Tormented" By Valerie Bowen. Truly Ms. Bowen loves having excitement, suspsense and even humor in her book. This novel was definitely a page-tuner.
The characters were very good in this novel Amelia, Ray, Tracy, Mark, Kyle and Mr. Ben Sullivan only to name a few.
I found the book a real page turner.. wanting to know just what happened to Amelia? Will Kyle and Amelia ever be together?
Seeing how Amelia gets out of a bad realationship to finally in a good one... you will just have to pick up this read. I believe this is a very good and interesting read that will keep you turning the page until you are finished. Then you will be left wanting more.....
This is the worst book I have ever read. Hands down. Narrative is all over the place and no one speaks like this!!!! Story is dreadful. I think the author read 50 romance novels and used the plot from each. How this is a trilogy is beyond me. I for one will not be buying the other two or anything else from this author.
